Culturally Safe Support

My Voice has a diverse workforce and a diverse clientele. We encourage our staff to be proud of their culture and to support our clients to be able to participate in their cultural practices whether in Northern Territory, the Southern Highlands, Gosford or across Sydney in NSW. 

When planning and delivering culturally safe services. We focus on: 

• The importance of language and culture whether it is returning to country or participating in local religious or cultural events.
• Recruiting and training in key communities. More than 70% of our workforce in the Central Desert are First Nations people.
• Travelling to communities to provide services. We take the time to build relationships, and we follow correct protocols to ensure that we have the permission to access and work within the communities.
• Providing well trained culturally competent staff to deliver support services in all types of living environments.

My Voice has been providing disability services in the Central Desert since 2019. Our staff there, are local people with local management. We co-design our service delivery with our Aboriginal clients and their families who come from the central desert communities, and we accept the guidance of their senior members. 

We have both men’s and women’s houses in Alice Springs as is culturally appropriate. We make sure the right staff are matched to meet the client’s needs in both our houses, and when providing disability services on country. 

Our team of skilled, disability support staff are guided by the people on the communities in how to provide culturally safe support and services.
